Selon les données du ministère des Sports, après une hausse de 2,6 % en deux ans entre 2008 et 2010, le nombre de licenciés de la FFT a diminué de 7,3 % entre 2010 et 2016 passant de 1 134 571 à 1 052 127 licenciés. En 2016, 29,1 % des licenciés FFT étaient des femmes (306 166).
La FFT est la deuxième Fédération française en nombre de licenciés, en 2017, derrière la FFF
